Silver fillings are poisonous!

Starting now, I promise to get better with my blogging. I have so many interesting dental facts that I really want to share with you and I need to take more time to do just that.

As you may or may not know, I am a member of the IAOMT (International Academy of Oral Medicine & Toxicology). I am passionate about spreading the word about the mercury/amalgam fillings that you may have in your mouth- THEY ARE POISONOUS! That’s right- metal or “silver” fillings in your teeth could make you sick. They are 50% mercury.

Check out the Wikipedia article about mercury poisoning. It’s pretty scary stuff.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercury_poisoning

There is overwhelming evidence showing mercury to be highly toxic and easily released in the form of vapor each time you eat, drink, brush your teeth or otherwise stimulate your teeth.

These mercury vapors pass through cell membranes, across your blood-brain barrier, and into your central nervous system where it can cause several different kinds of health problems. If you have not had a chance to watch “the smoking tooth video,” please do.

This IAOMT video demonstrates that if you have amalgam fillings, every time you eat, chew, drink hot coffee, or visit the dentist, mercury vapors are released into your oral cavity where it can be absorbed into your blood stream. These vapors are odorless, colorless, and tasteless, so you won’t be able to tell that they’re there.

Since becoming a member of the IAOMT many new patients have found me through the website and a I am changing their fillings with our state of the art equipment to keep them safe as well as the staff during the removal. Like I mentioned before, my assistants and I wear respirators while removing the mercury fillings to filter out the vapors. Our patients also wear rubber dams, and extra long bibs and now they can even wear an oxygen mask to breathe through their nose during the mercury removal.

Your insurance will usually cover a portion of changing these fillings, but if you ask me, insurance or no insurance, they NEED to come out! The subject of insurance and the FDA will be in one of my upcoming blogs.

Please feel free to call the office at any time with questions. Paula or Jill are both there and ready to answer any questions that you may have. Oh, and one last thing. If you could take a minute to “Like” our Facebook page, I would really appreciate it.
